Reporter Jessica Eissfeldt continues to investigate the downtown’s vacant buildings, and their futures.
Freemason Hall, 1533 Barrington Street
Background: Built in 1924 and designed by S. P. Dumaresq, it is an early 20th century classical revival style. It is a designated municipal heritage property.
Now: The Freemasons sold the building and relocated. Steve Caryi bought the building in June of 2008. One of the main tenants, Junk & Foibles, had been in the building for almost 20 years. Other tenants included a pawn shop, Locas Bar and the Greko Club in the basement.
Future: Caryi is actively looking for new tenants for the space. He’s not expecting it to be empty for long.
