Assuming that Hurricane Earl doesn’t level the city, here are some of the editor’s favourite events in the city this weekend. (Bear in mind, the weather could be wild tomorrow—any of these events could be cancelled. Or maybe everything will be peachy—I’m not the meteorologist.)
Know a cool event we overlooked? Post a comment and share the details.
Friday
- 7pm: It’s Shakespeare by the Sea‘s last weekend of the season and if Earl is too wild, this performance of Julius Caesar could very well be the last show of the season.
- 8pm: If you really love the art of singing and songwriting, you probably don’t need to be sold on these shows (tonight and tomorrow) by Rose Cousins at the company house. The chanteuse brings passion and haunting beauty to every tune she touches.
Saturday
- 3pm and 7:20pm: The Atlantic Fringe Festival continues with dozens of shows around the city. One of today’s highlights is the one-woman comedy Jewish Girls Don’t Kayak at the Bus Stop Theatre.
- 10pm: Hopscotch, a bangin’ new hip-hop festival, kicks off tonight with New York mike legends Pete Rock, The Large Professor, Juju of the Beatnuts, Twin Peaks and DJ IV at the Paragon.
Sunday
- 10am–5pm: It’s your last weekend to see Breaking the Ice at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. The exhibition spotlights a unique assemblage of Inuit art.
- 2pm–4pm: The Stadacona Band performs in the bandstand for the Halifax Public Gardens Sunday Concert Series.
