Whether you’re trying for a healthier 2012 or swearing that this will be the year you find meatless dishes worth biting into, you’ve come to the right place. This week, we’ve got a vegan-friendly day of feasting lined up just for you.

When it comes to the most important meal of the day, it takes a brave soul to venture into vegan territory instead of your standard bacon and eggs. Yelper Vanessa J was up to the challenge as she took in brunch at the Heartwood Café and Bakery. Betting on the organic spelt-kamut waffles, she hit the jackpot. The “thick and fluffy” waffles were “smothered with a sweet (but not too sweet) blueberry sauce with some pear and strawberry slices mixed in.” Feeling famished? Nab the Wild Card Salad–a gargantuan mish-mash of all the other brunch dishes.

Taking things off the beaten path for lunch, you’ll find some of the most creative vegan dishes where you’d least expect them at Liu’s Formosa Gift and Tea House. Never heard of it? That’s not terribly surprising as this hole-in-the-wall is hidden away on Wyse Road in Dartmouth. Laura C tucked into a serving of chicken steak and sweet and sour ribs—all without breaking vegetarian boundaries, while a full set of vegan dim sum dishes round out the selection. “The food was very good,” and while you wait you peruse gorgeous Chinese ornaments, which always proves “a nice way to pass the time!”

For dinner, Kimberley M gets her vegan on without compromise at The Wooden Monkey, a long-time frontrunner for vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free dishes in the city. Her “new favourite dish is the Vegan Nachos. Both gluten and dairy free, these nachos are the best in town for those that have a restricted diet.” And if you don’t believe a meatless dish can leave you stuffed, these “are so big” that you may need “to take a doggie bag home” for midnight snacking.
