Coming up Roses

By | Feb 11, 2013

There’s something enchanting yet rugged about Caitlyn Rose Jewellery. The Cape Breton native has created a line with sterling silver, bronze castings, moonstones and crystals that evokes a beach-combed aesthetic. I was sad to have missed the pop-up show opening at J&R Grimsmo last Wednesday but luckily the collection is still on display so I stopped down to take a little peek.

The delicate and unusual designs are all displayed thoughtfully along the vast Grimsmo marble countertop amongst seashells and driftwood. I was immediately drawn towards the simpler styles and adore the infinity knot silver bangles and rosebud earrings and pendant necklace (made with real rosebuds dipped in resin). The bangles with cast bronze crab claws and lobster claw necklaces are some of Rose’s most memorable pieces and add an eclectic (but not over-the-top) ounce of East Coast elegance. Her colourful statement rings are amazing as well and if you aren’t quite ready for an ample moonstone than you might be drawn to the modern and jagged style of the mountain rings. J&R Grimsmo co-owner, Jessy Lacourciere, says that Rose’s jewellery attracts a wide demographic.

“I think that the edginess of her designs really appeals to a lot of women,” she comments. “The roughness of the claws combined with fine sterling silver is an unusual match but one that really gets noticed.”

If you’re shopping for someone special this Valentine’s Day, Caitlyn Rose Jewellery is an impressive and creative option. I’d also encourage women out there to take the initiative and snap up one of these beauties for themselves. With the snow mounting outside, a statement piece of jewellery is a lovely treat and might make your outlook on life just a little rosier…
