“A friend commented that I’ve now got book-ends on the waterfront,” says Lisa Drader-Murphy with a laugh.
She’s referring to the opening of her latest boutique, LDM, in the Historic Properties mall which just happens to be on the other end of the Halifax waterfront from her well-established Turbine boutique in Bishop’s Landing. To celebrate, Drader-Murphy hosted a grand opening this past Saturday night with a flock of well-heeled guests in attendance.
Anyone who knows Drader-Murphy knows that she is not one to do things halfway and her LDM boutique opening was no exception. With live models in the windows, champagne a flowing and an interactive fashion show with a diverse group of gorgeous models, the evening was a delightful opportunity to mingle while checking out the new collection.
Loyal clients will be happy to know that the Turbine boutique will continue to carry Drader-Murphy’s bestsellers (think the obi belt and upside-down dress) while LDM will carry limited edition pieces. Some of the looks currently available at LDM include the silky poet dresses, cropped jackets and the highest of sleek booties. Some of my favourites include the raw silk extra long wraps and luxurious wool vests.
“I wanted to go back to my roots a little and create more exclusive, experimental pieces,” says Drader-Murphy. “That’s where I started and I really love the idea of going into the studio and designing just four or five unique pieces.”
The large space with fresh white walls, a sweeping staircase and an array of windows makes an elegant showroom for the artistic, new collection. Since I’m the type of shopper who gravitates towards harder to find, handmade pieces, I will definitely be keeping an eye on the latest offering from the very modern LDM boutique.
