Every year around this time, I find myself battling my inner Scrooge versus my inner Santa. The Scrooge in me hates the crowded shops and stressful pressure, but the Santa in me loves the idea of a few days of peace and the chance to seek out creative gift ideas. I’ve been doing my best to channel my inner Santa, and with this in mind, here are a few of my picks for easy and thoughtful last minute gift ideas.

candles

For a stocking stuffer or party host gift, Windfall Candles are a perfectly festive option. Local artisan Jessica Winton initially started making her candles as gifts but was convinced by friends to start selling them each year during the holiday season. Available at Lady Luck Boutique, the candles come in pear, pomegranate and star fruit shapes that honestly look so real you’ll be tempted to take a bite out of them.

If you are shopping for an artistic and stylish woman, I think that Therese Bombardier Designs are worth seeking out. The local designer creates the most unique jewellery line of porcelain studs, necklaces and dangling earrings all with intricate yet delicate prints. Available at J&R Grimsmo and Lady Luck, Bombardier Designs are sure to appeal to a wide age range of tasteful women.

Since the weather outside is frightful, many of my gift ideas have been gravitating toward staying warm and cozy inside. With this in mind, I also absolutely love the selection of reasonably priced throws available at Nelson & Co. on Almon Street (open Saturdays and Sundays or by appointment). Designer, Deb Nelson, always does an incredible job offering home accessories from high-end to reasonable and she currently has a wide selection of the most colourful and soft throws perfect for curling up with in a storm.

What about that person that has absolutely everything or is just plain old hard to buy for? This year, my vote is consumables. Everyone enjoys receiving a little something gourmet to spice things up in their kitchen and I think that Liquid Gold offers fantastic options. Deluxe olive oil flavours available include butternut squash, bergamot fused, blood orange, Persian lime, Tuscan herb and so many more. I have a bit of a love affair going on with olive oil (so many uses!) and I think that putting together a basket full of gourmet, organic olive oils and vinegars is sure to please even the worst Scrooges out there.

Happy shopping everyone! And if you are anything like me, I hope that your inner Santa is able to win out in the end.
