In this space, Halifax Magazine shares the story of non-profit organizations and community groups working to build a better city. If you’d like to suggest an organization to feature, email editor Trevor J. Adams.

Membership of the Halifax-based Central Chapter Nova Scotia (CCNS) Harley Owners Group (HOG) is made up of some 125 Harley Davidson motorcycle owners from all walks of life—old/young, male and female. This enthusiastic group has been operating in the metro area since 1987 under the encouragement and sponsorship of Halifax’s local retailer, Privateers Harley Davidson. As a member of the largest factory-based motorcycle group in the world, the chapter’s simple motto is “ride and have fun.”

Equally important is the group’s community-minded philosophy: to promote interest and responsible involvement of its membership through active participation in various local, regional and national activities. Its objectives are realized in two ways: organizing and conducting motorcycle-related activities such as group rides, rallies and events for its membership, and by offering much-needed support to the local community through volunteering and participation in events that aid various organizations.

Local benefactors of HOG include Souls Harbour Mission, Hope for Wildlife, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Partners for Life with Canada Blood Services, spring highway clean-ups and the “Super Walk” fundraiser in aid of Parkinson’s disease. In addition, our chapter is currently involved with preparations for the 2015 Harley Owners Group annual Atlantic Regional Rally to be held in Halifax from July 9 to 12. atlanticregionalrally.hog.com

We are proud of those relationships we have established and continue to foster and support them, as well as other endeavours, through our community involvement.
