In this space, Halifax Magazine invites local non-profit organizations to share what they do, and how readers can help. If you know an organization that would like to share its story, email the editor: email@example.com
DASC (Dartmouth Adult Services Centre) is a non-profit vocational day program for adults with intellectual disabilities. DASC gives people the support they need to realize their true potential and become active members of the community. Through social enterprise and a variety of vocational and community employment programs, DASC helps each client find personal fulfillment. DASC treats clients with dignity and respect, recognizing their uniqueness and their requirement for services appropriate to their needs.
Over 170 clients and 45 staff come to work at DASC each day. Government funding, foundations, corporate and individual donations, and the work of executive director Cathy Deagle-Gammon make DASC possible.
As a leader in vocational programs and social enterprise in Nova Scotia, DASC runs businesses that translate into continued programs, employee skill development, and the endorsement of DASC’s goals within the community. Some of the businesses run at DASC include: packaging and assembly, and complete mail-out services including printing, addressed and unaddressed mail, collating, inserting, labelling, etc. DASC is also the largest manufacturer of promotional buttons in Atlantic Canada.
Another dynamic part of businesses at DASC is the rental of state-of-the-art board room and training rooms. DASC meeting rooms offer video conferencing, smart boards, and tools to set up the right atmosphere for a business meeting or social function. DASC offers free parking and our venues are the perfect combination of function and elegance for meetings and organized events.
By offering dynamic services to businesses in Nova Scotia, DASC and its clients are a vital part of the community. Recycling refundables at the Halifax airport and other environmentally focused work are true social enterprise activities that engage our clients and further benefit the community as a whole. DASC is always looking for new projects to take on to help local businesses and our capabilities are only limited by the imagination.
