There are all kinds of organizations in this city that need your support. In each issue, we let one make its case. If you’d like Halifax Magazine to consider a pitch from your organization, email firstname.lastname@example.org
Kids Help Phone is dedicated to the well being of children and youth. From abuse to neglect to the death of a loved one—no problem is too big or too small. Counsellors are always there providing help and hope through professional phone and web based counselling services, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
When young people feel like there’s nowhere to turn, when parents, schools and social services are unavailable, closed, backlogged or simply not accessible, Kids Help Phone is there.
Children and youth in almost 3,000 urban, rural and remote communities in Canada reached out for help over 2.2 million times by phone and online in 2008. In Atlantic Canada alone, children and youth from 435 communities reached out to counsellors 345,671 times. Each year, the demand for Kids Help Phone’s services increases. In 2009, Kids Help Phone helped more kids than ever before on the phone and online.
Kids Help Phone is proud to offer services to youth free of charge but being available 24/7 is costly. As a charity that receives no core government or United Way funding, Kids Help Phone relies on the support of volunteers, and individual and corporate donors to ensure that its counselling, information and referral services can continue to operate today, tomorrow and for future generations.
